B-Corp Certification

B Corp is to business what Fair Trade is to coffee… They are businesses that give as much consideration to their social and environmental impact as they do to their financial returns.         Companies must achieve at least a minimum score against a set of social and environmental standards. TCRC supports organisations to complete the rigorous environmental component.

Project managing your carbon reduction programme

The Carbon Resilience Company can support your organisation in programme management to deliver on your climate emergency or net-zero aspirations. Our team have experience of delivering building fabric measures such as cavity wall and loft insulation, voltage optimisation, LED lighting, multi-site automatic meter read installations as well as renewable energy installations for wind and solar. We use accredited installers or can work with your agreed contractors to project manage your carbon reduction programme.

Adopting an inclusive approach to decision making through citizens' assemblies

An approach that is similar to participatory budgeting.

Citizen assemblies offer an approach to tackle potentially tough decisions while bringing communities or staff along with you.

A range of experts will present their case on a chosen topic (Ireland used this approach prior to legalising gay marriage and abortion). Citizens are selected though a process of randomised sortition representing a range of demographics or alternatively whoever is at your event (peoples assembly). They are then able to ask questions of the panel and deliberate. Typically carried out over a few weeks or can be shorter and more intense.

The three pillars of a citizens assembly are

  • Radical inclusivity

  • Trust the process

  • Active listening.

You can watch a short video here of a Peoples Assembly in action from the October 2019 Extinction Rebellion protest at Trafalgar Square which George Monbiot chaired.

Supporting you online or face-to-face at our carbon clinic

You set the time and can prep the session with your key issues. Sessions are typically an hour and can be on the phone or via zoom video call. This is an opportunity to drill down into specific issues or discuss a range of ideas.

If an hour at the climate clinic is not enough you can book a half day site visit  to support your staff climate emergency awareness event or carry out a carbon reduction opportunities assessment.

Achieving carbon neutral (net-zero) status for your business, service or event

Delivering on customer or corporate objectives to be a net zero or carbon neutral business has multiple benefits.

  • Meet customer, stakeholder, industry and legal expectations

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and quantify your carbon footprint

  • Identify areas of inefficiency and improve overall performance

  • Make cost savings by reducing energy consumption and bills

  • Gain credibility with an accurate carbon neutrality statement

At the climate resilience company we offer the PAS 2060 validation for net-zero carbon neutrality. This approach has been used by companies like M&S as a transparent approach to demonstrating climate commitment.

Developing a Decarbonsiation Plan

A Decarbonisation Plan will typically be a five or ten year plan with a commitment to reduce an organisations carbon emissions. For example at the local authority level the most common target is net zero by 2030, against a baseline year, for direct emissions from corporate sources. The decarbonisation plan could also outline how measures taken in the next 5-10 years would support 2050 net zero ambitions. There are specific steps involved:

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Define and baseline current carbon emissions sources

  • Assess technical and behavioural opportunities to reduce those emissions

  • Financing and payback with respect to monetary and emissions reduction

  • Off-set or carbon removal strategy

  • Communications strategy

  • Annual monitoring and reporting

Our team has a huge amount of experience in working with organisations to produce realistic yet challenging climate action plans as well as identifying sources of funding.
